Here are answers to questions I often hear. If you have others, please don't hesitate to reach out.

What can I expect in a session?

Every session is guided by your needs, not a one-size-fits-all model. We might explore what's weighing on you, untangle patterns that no longer serve you, or focus on managing current stress. Expect a space where you're seen, heard, and not judged — where we work together toward clarity, healing, and growth.

Do I have to talk about my past?

Only if and when you're ready. Sometimes the past holds clues that can help us understand the present, but we move at your pace. Some clients prefer to focus on current stressors or future goals — and that's entirely valid. This is your space, and I respect where you are in your journey.

What if I've never done therapy before?

That's completely okay — many of my clients are new to therapy. You don't need to come in with the right words or know exactly what to say. It's my job to help you feel comfortable and to guide the process in a way that feels grounded and human. We take it one step at a time.

Do you prescribe medications?

Great question. This is something I'm working toward. While I don't currently prescribe, I'm on the path to becoming a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Combining that with my LMSW means I'll eventually be able to offer both therapy and medication management. My long-term goal is to be a one-stop, trusted resource for the full spectrum of mental health care my clients need.

How do sliding fee rates work?

Sliding fee means that I adjust the session fee based on your financial situation. You let me know what's manageable, and we work together to find a rate that feels fair. No documentation or justification is needed — I trust you. This is about reducing shame and creating access.

What insurance do you accept?

At this time, Lumin operates on a private pay basis, offering sessions at an affordable out-of-pocket rate. We're actively exploring insurance options and hope to offer coverage through select providers soon.

What if I can't afford therapy right now?

Please don't let that stop you from reaching out. I'm currently offering sliding fee sessions for a limited number of people, so I encourage you to apply sooner rather than later. If I'm not able to accommodate your financial needs at this time, I'll do my best to refer you to low-cost or free resources in the community. Therapy should be accessible, and I'm committed to helping you find a path forward.

Are you telehealth only?

Yes, currently Lumin operates exclusively via telehealth, offering you the convenience of accessing therapy from wherever you are, whenever it works best for you. We're committed to making support accessible and flexible. That said, we're excited to share that Lumin plans to open a physical space in Anchorage in the near future—stay tuned for updates!

How much do you charge for sessions?

You can see our rates on the Rates & Insurance page. There's often a stigma around putting prices for mental health services, but we like to be as upfront as possible to allow you to do your own research and make your own decisions about what is worth it to you so there aren't any surprises. We also have certain slots available for those who are currently facing challenges with payment for therapy. Please reach out for questions.
